McDonald’s photo-based works are reminiscent of the act of walking through old farm fields reclaimed by wild flowers, butterflies and animals. The layering of transparent images, text and drawing (created through an acrylic transfer technique) allow for complex readings. The images in Tracks and Traces are criss-crossed by railroad tracks and animal tracks exploring how humans, animals and plants compete to co-exist. Images are sandwiched in a protective way between sheets of Plexiglas, referencing a precarious co-existence temporarily held in balance. The Plexiglas accordion book Observances, Following the Path, represents the artist’s process of making an art work, beginning with observation and following through to creation.
